We are glad you want to become a "Sølvgutt"!

Below is some information on how to proceed if you want to become a "Sølvgutt".

I want to become a Sølvgutt

We are glad you want to sing with us! There are not many places where you as a young boy, can be part of a choir of Sølvguttenes caliber. With us, you will start in our aspirant group where you will get basic training in singing and musical theory. Later on, usually after 6 months, you will join our main choir - one of Norway's leading boys' choirs.

In Sølvguttene, we strive for not only with performing at a high level, but also to experience the joy of singing. We want to have fun while singing! Building friendships is also very important, across generations. There is something special about being able to strike up a conversation with an 8-year-old boy one second and a 70-year-old man the next.

Audition

Admission to Sølvguttene's Aspirant Choir takes place every first Monday of the month from 16:15 at VID vitenskapelige høgskole, Studiested Diakonhjemmet, Oslo. The time for your entrance exam is agreed specifically with one of the conductors.

At the entrance exam, a simple children's song is sung, e.g. "Alle fugler små de er" and a short hearing test is performed (tone repetition).

Answers about any place in the Aspirant Group are given per sms/tel.

Age limit

The lower age limit for admission to Sølvguttene is 7 years.

Former "Sølvgutt"?

From the start of Sølvguttene in 1940, more than 2.000 boys have sung in the choir, and all have contributed to the choir's wonderful development and history. We want to keep in touch with old singers, so if you have sung in the choir before, please give us information on how we can reach you today by submitting your email address to marked@solvguttene.no. At irregular intervals, you will receive updates about various meetings with old singing brothers and other current topics and events around the choir.

What is the best thing about singing in Sølvguttene?

The best thing about singing in Sølvguttene is the social aspect and having good mates who work together to perform good music.

What is the coolest place you've sung?

With Sølvguttene, I have sung several thousand concerts in approx. 20 countries. We have sung in many different places - from shopping malls to large cathedrals such as Notre Dame in Paris. When we travel on tour in Norway and come to smaller places, we are received as stars. We held a concert in Berlevåg in Finnmark with an audience of approximately 470 people. Berlevåg then had a total of around 1.100 inhabitants! I will never forget it.

What is your favorite song to sing?

I have sung a lot of different music, but when we end a concert with the "Hallelujah-chorus" from Handel's "Messiah" in a powerful "forte" (very strong) it is an equally great experience every time.
